Ok, as a long time (fustrated VDR 1, 2.0) user, we now have vDP 5.1.0.56.179 running now for a couple hours, too early to tell if ready for prime-time but here are a few tweaks needed vmWare programmers;
- the whole failed backups due to UUID for Windows 2008 R2 is a PIA, fix that please. Worked fine in VDR 2.0.
- the refresh/sort features need to be fixed in next update, especially under Restore tab
- Reports tab, it suc&s, either remove or make it like VDR 2.0, (the only stable thing we liked in VDR) sort feature is screwy too, the little scroll dice needs to stay put, keeps jumping down requiring user to scroll up/down to get back where they were.
- Under Configuration/Backup Appliance tab, click Edit, change the settings, then Save, then edit again and good luck trying to make changes as options are hidden. Who did the QA?
- vDP drags under the vCenter Web Client, plus we have to use vCenter web client to monitor backups, no thick-app ability, bummer, but we'll adapt.
- the 500BG equals 8XXGB and 1TB equals 1.5XTB, what? why? we could do 1TB under VDR, now we are only able to do 500GB but it is really 8XXGB? Too bad, we had 1.36TB on NFS to use.
- give us an auto-connect into vDP from the web client, why make us click connect? computers should do the work.
- FLR, I have to go into yet another web site/port? can we make it simple, under one roof please? Since you are phasing us off the Windows GUI, at least make the FLR easier to get to. Most of us are doing FLR restores anyway.
- VDR used to start a backup right away if a new VM was added to list, vDP only starts if you manually tell it to. New VM's are not considered Out of Date, should be, don't you think? Please fix.
- Our backups are fast but the maintenance window in VDR used to allow 24X7, vDP only allows certain timeframe, what happens if failure at 12am? won't start the cleanup until backup window ends say 7am for us. That is 7 hours wasted that it could have run an integrity check, again make the computer do the work.
- Also, to follow up on the above, please give us a check box option to allow automated "remove damaged restore point" feature and run integrity check already, we can't fix em anyway right?, just delete so new backups can run in the middle of the night. Tired of babysitting this software.
- allow us to start a backup for a single VM from the Backup tab, not just thru the vcenter VM Inventory screen. Oh..vCenter VM Inventory VDP menu option drags too
- get the iPad app updated so that vDP is integrated. I should be able to restore a VM or a file(s) for a user... from the airport or at the kitchen table.
Thanks for listening.
