In non-virtualized environments we generally like to use Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery. We run full/incremental backups to a NAS and copy those off to an external hard drive to be taken off-site. I am trying to find a good and cost effective backup product for two virtual environements. Both are running ESX 4.0, one is standard edition the other is advanced.
We purchased vRanger Pro 4.1 for a client and are going to return it, I am doing a trial of Veeam 3.11, the problem I have with both is their tehnical support is not good, Veeam has been better than vRanger though. I am used to being able to get a hold of a technician quickly and being able to resolve the issues without long hold times or waiting for return calls. When dealing with Dell, HP, VMware, Symantec, Research In Motion, etc, service is usually quick and good. With both vRanger and Veeam they do not include 24x7 support. vRanger hold times are very bad and follow up is just as bad. Veeam does not have a live queue and the call back time has been unsatifactory.
Can anyone suggest any other options they cost about $400 per socket like both of these products cost? Looking for something that will do a full backup Friday then incrementals throughout the week to a Windows box.
