Consistency of VM with Netapp Snapmirror

Hi All,

We use Netapp filers to present LUN's to our ESX 4.1 servers and backup our VM's using SMVI. SMVI makes sure we have consistent VM's by first putting the VM's in snapshot before it takes a storagesnapshot. But where is this VM consistency when using Snapmirror? Is Snapmirror intented for use with CIFS etc. only and not for LUN's?

Any help or insight is welcome. If possible with links to official documentation.
