i'm running esx 4.1, i want to know which is the best way to back up vms, i backed up vm via both OVF and manual copy pasting the whole directory. but comparitively OVF template showing size in 956 MB s and where as vm directory showing around 2.6 GB (thin provision), is OVF kind of compressed mode ? I alos use vmware recovery add in but if i deleted the vm i can't restore the particular vm,
Please tell me whcih one is best way for backing up vms, one more thing is if take backups periodically, let's say for every week, should i over write or create new one and delete old copy.
I'm really help less in backup process.
