Hello and thank you for taking the time for this discussion.
We current have nine servers for virtual machines and two of them are in operation. So a few questions before I go any further:
1) I would like to ask what the best backup solution is for virtual machines?
2) What are your experiences with them and what would you recommend?
3) We are in the process of having fiber ran to a backup data center where a few of these will reside. Does the mentioned backup solution have the capability to backup on the block level since this is gong to be offsite (it's fiber, but it's still 7 miles away)?
All of the machines have WMware ESXi 5.1.0 and they have the following:
PowerEdge R720xd
CPU: 16 CPU x 2.599 GHz (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 0 @ 2.60GHz)
RAM: 256 GB
HDD: 30 TB (22 TB usable after RAID)
NICS: 10
I know some solutions (like Veeam) require an entire server and that is fine. I am looking to proceed within the next week as I do not want these converted servers sitting too long with no actual backup.
