Hi,
We are running two node cluster running with essential plus kit on FC based shared storage.
There are 2 vm on each host and running application and SQL database.
We want to go for further redundancy/disaster recovery and need to backup the VM itself on some other disk based storage.To answer this we planned to add a QNAP based NAS box which can act as a IP SAN as well.
I have couple of questions;
1. Can We deploy VDP appliance on existing expensive SAN as a vmdk file?If yes, I do not think if we have enough of storage on exisitng expensive san.Do you suggest that new purchased IP san should be formatted as vmdk and ova appliance to be mounted there.(We have one VM of SQL having big size say 1.5TB and that required to be backed up).Does it possible to backup on NAS?
2. Is there any way where we mount ova on existing expensive storage may be some small space LUN say 100 GB and backup the VM on other storage like IP san of Qnap.I am assuming this like a physical backup system where software lies on one host and backup on Tape or disks being done etc.
3. Also one of vm would be more than 2TB of size,does that mean we can't use VDP for that and require to go for VDP adavanced?
4. Is it possible if we can backup specific file from a guest OS.Lets say file server.What in case of SQL database.Or do we need to go for VDP Advanced.
5. Does specific file can be restored from one of the particular already backed up vm?Say we have backed up SQL vm and restoring one of the database out of that.
6. Can backup be done on NAS box if possible.
