We'd like to get some insight on backup configuration for VMware with EMC VNX and configuration of the storage and how its generally done.
Currently we are using EMC VNX with our VMware 5 node cluster and we've presented various LUN's from the SAN to the VMware Cluster Storage group on the SAN and we need to configure backup.
What were having some issue is with the configuration of the storage - our Symantec Netbackup media servers and LTO Library's are also connected to the SAN and we intend to use the VMware API for snapshot backups to the LTO via the SAN.
In order for the Symantec Media servers to have visibility to the ESX VMFS LUNs we've also added the Media Servers to the same VNX Storage Group as the ESX Clusters but were not sure if this is the proper setting/best practice for the EMC since mutilple systems are accessing the storage group - will there be any issues? And if this is not the best practice approach how should the backup be configured?
