Will VDPa reliably backup vCenter 5.5 Appliance (vCSA)?

Now that the vCSA in 5.5 can support up to 100 hosts using the embedded DB  I am interested in using the appliance going forward. 

I see that vDPa 5.5 now supports to Direct-to-Host emergency restores for vCenter from vDP which is important since vDP has a dependency on vCenter.

I have seen articles on manually backing up the embedded vCSA DB which makes me wonder if vDP backup of vCSA is reliable. Will vDPa reliably backup the vCSA using the embedded DB?  .
